SALLY MUSTANG X THE RIOT COLLECTIVE

Splendour in the Grass is well and truly upon us and faster than expected… We open our doors first thing tomorrow at the festival! Come and say hello, we are located just near the main entry opposite the Smirnoff Stage.

To celebrate our arrival at Splendour we decided to get together with one of our favourite Byron artists and models, Sally Mustang for a festival inspired shoot. Shot by Loz of The Riot Collective – Sally, looked super at home on Dolphin’s Beach in a selection of our Splendour styles. We are super excited to announce both Sally Mustang and The Riot Collective will be joining us at Splendour to snap all of your festival style for an upcoming blog post! So be sure to come and say hello and get a photo.

We took 5 with Sal to discuss perfect dates, bucket lists and what she’s most looking forward to at Splendour.

1. What are you wearing on repeat right now?

Oh you know, Indian saris, with thermals underneath to beat this cold winter weather! I actually am super into accessories, so you will usually find me with chokers, jingles and all sort of adornments around my neck. I make a fair bit of my own jewellery too. At the moment I’m wearing an earring in my right lobe I made myself and my left lobe is sort of up for rent. My left ear also has a few tattoos on it, so they sort of pass as earrings too. I’m in love with Liberated Heart’s new Luminescent Overalls, with a band shirt underneath.

2. Food fad of the moment?

Porridge, steel cut oats, made on coconut milk, lots of nuts, banana and berries. Mmmm it’s keeping me warm

3. The last song you played?

Satan by D.D Dumbo

4. What’s your spirit animal?

A monkey! I’m always eating bananas, I’m a bit cheeky and I seem to be swinging or climbing on things a lot.

5. You spent a number of years exploring Australia gypsy-style. Where was your favourite place?

Esperance W.A blew my mind. It’s this absolutely stunning oasis right after the Nullabor, that just boasts the most incredible beaches and coves.

6. What’s your idea of a perfect date?

Something outdoorsy, blankets and a sunrise, a hike, bike rides or even just a game of cards.

7. Why do you think it’s important for women to start opening up more about sex?

I think it’s important for everyone to start opening up about sex. It would make for a happier, healthier world. It’s a part of everyone’s life and we need to be open about our wants and desires. Sex is something to be celebrated and encouraged in my mind. I think women especially are extremely sexual beings and being happy and confident sexually can have a major impact on someone’s confidence and happiness in general.

8. Top 3 things on your bucket list?

I guess there are hundreds of things on my list! The things that stand out more than any – I just want to teach people how to be happy and have a positive influence on the world.

9. What’s the best part of working for yourself?

It’s exciting, there is passion in everything I do, and I don’t know the answer to: “How many hours of work do you do a week?” I don’t actually know what is work and what isn’t anymore – it’s sort of melds together. Some things pay the bills and some things don’t – but just because I’m getting paid, or not paid, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s “work” in my mind. Doing my own thing means I get to choose fun whenever and however I want. Sometimes I have a really busy week and sometimes I’ll go hiking and camping for 5 days. For me, lifestyle and health is more important than success or money.

10. What’s next for Sally Mustang?

Haha oh there is always lots… I’m writing a book, about to start community yoga classes twice a week and Mitch and I are working towards an exhibition with all new artworks and some new fun things in October.

11. What are you most looking forward to at Splendour?

The Cure!!! I’ve been listening to them since I was tiny. My Dad is a massive fan and tells anyone that will listen – “I’ve seen The Cure live.” Me and my brothers have joked about getting him a shirt saying “I’ve seen The Cure live”. I guess now I’ll be able to get a matching shirt saying “I’ve seen the Cure live too.”
